can somone put a new modern engine in a vintage motorcycle to make it near as fast as a modern bike?
The bike is a vintage 1942 Indian Scout to run it in the N? He as fast as the "Gilroy" Indian Scout in 2000. The H? Top speed is around 120 mph.

Be very careful, it's not the speed, it's the braking power.
It is possible, but you may have to fabricate new motor mounts. Its definitely not going to fit right in being that old.
Why would anybody even want to ruin a vintage bike by installing "modern " engine in it.That bike stock is worth $10,000.00 + and the minuit you put another engine in it you reduce the value to 0.
Although, with a little work, you could probably drop a modern, high power engine into the older bike, much of the rest of the bike would not be ideal for handling this extra power – the suspension, wheels, spokes, steering head and brakes (to mention just a few) were designed for the original power and were archaic and sub-standard to today's designs in many cases.
This bike (and your safety) would be severely tested by this swap.
Another writing project? Some good answers up already, and has been implied as soon as you modify it, it is no longer a vintage bike. Unless of course period correct parts or home made stuff like Burt Munro did are used.
The engine is the heart and soul of a bike. Transplanting a modern technological wonder into it will instantly take away any old world panache. Not to mention you would have to re-engineer the entire bike to contain that modern power, and to get it stopped safely. The end result is that it is not the same bike, and therefore a pointless excersize.
Some things are best left alone.
