@drewbrophy , I was wondering; on your website where you have the instructions for preping the helmet for painting, is that the same process to take for stock helmets that have that reflective vinyl on it? do i have to strip that vinyl layer or just sand down the gloss then prime?
its a pen with a long or tip(the bit you write with)
order from drewbrophy . com – they ship overseas
You mean you used a Krylon pen for the clear coat, or a krylon can? Im not sure what a 'fat tip' is.
I use it to blend into the light blue.
What for sharpe is it on 0:53 ???
Nice work man.
where can i buy these sort of pens?
eny site i culd order from cuz i live in Finland.
nice work,I was thinking about painting a japanese symbol on the forehead of the helmet. Will it turn out right if I just prime and paint that area of the helmet?
You still have to polish it, and the fat tip is key to getting an even coat. Montana Gold makes a gold tip that is great. I use polyurethane on my nicer projects, when people want to pay more.
Wow, Krylon on the helmet. I would have guessed something different. Thats cool! (and cost efficient!)
Thanks for the reply.
John
The clear is Krylon with a fat tip, The pens last for a long time, I never could use a full pen on one job, yellow and light blue are the colors I go through the quickest. Good Luck Life is Good Drew
One other quick question… How many markers did you use for one helmet. if you used 5 colors, would you use up all of the marker (maybe use 2-3 each color) for a job the size of this helmet. Or does these markers last quite a bit more than one per job?
In other words, how much paint do you get out of (lets say) the medium tips?
ps. I just bought your DVD. Looking forward to it!
Hey Drew, I am buying your DVD this month. I did surfboards about 15 years ago and you inspired me then and once again, you inspired me now.
Question: We are doing some helmets for some friends. What did you use as a clear coat (what brand?). Do you know how well it held up over a bit of time?
you have real talent, good job man.
Hi Drew, I just bought your DVD but couldn't figure out what is the best way to clean the paint. Would you help me out? Thank you.
no you want water based and yea you clear coat it.
did you have to seal/coat it after words? im looking to paint a friend's helmet with sharpie paint pens. i think their oil based. is this ok?
Water Based paint pens by Uni Posca.
It's a song by Brian ILL of Crystal Cove Media

Hey drew thanks again for working on the helmet. We love it and still get looks everywhere we go. Anyway if anyone wants to know…this is just an old HJC helmet that I sanded down. It was my first helmet and I paid about $200 for it. It was really cool that after I sanded it down Drew was able to design on it with a pencil b4 he painted. Thanks again.
